Sustainability

Sustainable Development

In adherence to the United Nations sustainable development Goal 17 established to take “urgent actions to combat climate change and its impacts, we at Sweetlime not only use natural fabrics and materials that produce less carbon emissions, but also long lasting high quality clothing.

Our mascot, A Koala, is an ideal representation for our company. This incredibly adorable species fills our lives with love and joy, yet is endangered due to unfit surroundings. We wish to change the habitat for the better and take accountability for our resource consumption while actively lessening it to make a positive environmental impact.

Ethical Production

We are a SA8000 certified and compliant factory. We offer fair wages and good working conditions to our workers. The SA8000 Standard is based on internationally recognised standards of fair treatment of workers, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ILO conventions and laws.

We abide by the SLCP Program (Social & Labor Convergence Program). The SLCP Program offers the tools and system to measure working conditions in global supply chains. We are committed towards ensuring good working conditions for our workers which is why we also make use of SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit). SMETA is Sedex’s social auditing methodology, that helps us assess our sites and suppliers and understand the working conditions in their supply chain as well thereby ensuring we are completely socially sustainable.

Raw Material

We use plant-based materials and fibers such as cotton, linen, and man-made cellulosics such as viscose, Tencel and modal. The fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, which means they can fully revert back to nature. We ensure we use fabrics that have the least environmental impact. We try to be more aware of where the materials are coming from and what they’re made of.

Responsible Material Sourcing

We are GOTS certified and compliant. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including compliance with ecological and social criteria of the entire textile supply chain. We use organic cotton. Cotton from Better Cotton Initiative as well as upcycled cotton.

We use Tencel lyocell. Derived from sustainable wood sources, all TENCEL Lyocell fibres are certified as biodegradable and compostable as they can fully revert to nature resulting in a minimal footprint.

We are GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certified. GRS is a voluntary product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials, social and environmental practices and ensures chemical restrictions in the final product.

We use Polyester for some of our garments which is created by melting down plastic waste and respun into new polyester fibre.

Waste Reduction

We stand for mindful consumption, an extended product life cycle and a commitment to avoid overproduction. We believe in constantly reusing the raw material we have left over during production. We make to order and produce small quantities with high quality to ensure durability and discourage fast fashion. Sweetlime makes use of repurposed and reusable packaging. The packaging is less wasteful and reusable.

No To Harmful Chemicals

Fabric, trims, labels, threads, buttons, zippers and even packaging are all tested for harmful chemicals. We ensure none of these have a negative impact on you or the environment. Most of these are up-cycled and all produced locally in India.
